About Meredith Barlow, EqDT Meredith Barlow, EqDT is a graduate of The American School of Equine Dentistry and is also a member of the International Association of Equine Dentistry. She has been involved with horses since she was 10 years old. She has four equine children, Nanna, Stormy, Mare E and Zanzibar and a feline child named Bagheera. Meredith Barlow, EqDT is not a veterinarian. Meredith works with veterinarians across the state. She does approximately 80% of her work with out sedation and calls in the assistance of a veterinarian when sedation is required. She does require sedation any time an extraction is to be performed, or when the safety of herself, the handler, or horse comes into question. She also requires that a veterinarian be present any time molar extractions are done. This ensures that the veterinarian can determine if radiographs (x-rays) are needed, if the horse is in overall good condition to have an extraction performed, and to stand-by in case any complications arise. Safety is her main concern at all times! Meredith travels all over the state of Virginia, if you are unsure of whether or not she will come to your area please contact her. Here are some guidelines: Meredith goes approximate one hour in any direction from Mechanicsville, VA for any number of horses. If you have more than 4 she will go further accordingly. She will travel anywhere in the state upon the request of a veterinarian, or for special cases. She also allows horses to come to her farm to seek treatment by appointment only. NO walk-ins will be seen. If you do not fall into any of these categories and would like to find a dental technician to work on your horse visit http://www.iaedglobal.com to search for a member near you.
